The music last night was good. The DJ was skilled and I danced the whole night. Venue is clean and the vibe is cool. Its primarily a bar but the crowd managed to get into the music. As long as younare willing to start dancing. You can get the party started. ;)
I was talking a stroll down the street and saw a sign saying happy hour. I was feeling a little down at that particular moment, and unfortunately for my health, this is one of the few ways I know to get happy. Walking in, I could not believe my eyes there was giant Alice in Wonderland mural on the wall and the decor all followed that same theme. My immediate thought was I am not nearly cool or trendy enough to be here but I fought through my initial reaction to run away, terrified someone might recognize that I did not belong. I went to the bar feigning confidence, acting as if I constantly went to bars based Lewis Carroll books and Disney themed movies. It is at this point I should note that it has been decades since I have seen Alice in Wonderland and despite the fact I read the book a few years prior, I retained virtually nothing of any relevance. I then looked down at the menu where (I assume) all the drinks were references to the acclaimed psychedelic movie and forgettable novel. I smiled and chuckled to myself while I pretended to understand the various references, hoping with vigor that the bartender would think I got the joke. I finally landed on a drink and watched the bartender prepare it and serve it to me in a tea cup. It was very unique and completely delicious. After nursing it for several minutes and forcing uncomfortable small talk with the bartender and those around me I settled up and got ready to leave. As I walked toward the door I noticed a staircase leading downwards. Now I am not typically one for adventure or exploration. I find comfort in in the color beige, I drive in the right lane refusing to go more than 3 miles over the speed limit and my favorite cereal is cheerios, not honey-nut cheerios but plain whole grain cheerios. I know not why I decided to venture from my path of safety and routine but I did and explored the downstairs. I was shocked to find that there was an entire new level to the bar, except this one had a retro theme. Pictures of older musicians hung on the walls, there were arcade games and a whole new slew of drink that I could pretend to understand the names of. After taking a lap I decided that I had enough adventure and change for one day. I am excited to come back here another day and this is a great place to bring people from out of town as it is nothing like a bar seen anywhere else.
RVA is a mecca for new music. Dive is the most recent addition to the group of excellent venues dedicated to independent music. The decor is superb. Beautiful Turkish lamps, gilded birdcages and leafy "branches" above the bar create a magical feel, while comfortable cushions and padded recessed booths complete the vibe. The stage is small and has good proximity to the audience and it is easy to see from the whole room. There's a very cool floor to ceiling window stage left that looks out onto the sidewalk, allowing passers-by to see what is happening on stage - I love this! I'm told that Vibe is a work in progress. After this great start I can't wait to see where it goes!
Would definitely recommend this pop up bar in Richmond!! We arrived super early and they were so willing to open their door to us and the family:) with a smile! Which is very rare theses days, all I can say thank you to our wonderful bartender whom made us feel at home! Whole experience was wonderful!!
I had a really great time here! I can’t wait until they switch up the theme. But I’m a huge superhero fan and it was sky first time there. The music was amazing, and I had the shrimp quesadillas soooo good. Sadly they were understaffed so it took awhile to get greeted. However I understand because they were so so busy. Our server was very polite and courteous and really tried to be attentive but he was just getting pulled in so many directions. I would def recommend having more people on the floor. The hookah lady was nice as well, snd she was so busy however she still took her time explained everything and was very personable as well.
This place was so cute and fun. The energy was great and I loved the Willy Wonka theme going on. Fun themed drinks — a good spot to stop!
Switch is always cool and has great themes! Our bartender Summer customized a drink for me that was amazing and she was really nice. A great weekend spot!
So we have never had the opportunity to experience Richmond area nightlife. Well, that all changed at this cute spot downtown RVA! Very close to VCU, food and gas stations! It's set up with different themes each level!! Who doesn't love Willy Wonka??!!! I had the cutest Willy Wonka inspired Martini Violet your turning violet! Music was definitely a vibe and the crowd was super chill. They have vip seating downstairs with Super Mario Brothers Theme! Would definitely visit again! Better parking than most places near by!
